DSC awarded for gallantry, skill, determination and undaunted devotion to duty during the landing of Allied Forces on the coast of Normandy.  CO of HMS Salamander when she was among several sweepers mistakenly rocketed by RAF Typhoons off Le Havre on 'Savage Sunday'  27 Aug 44.  Stern blown off but towed back to Portsmouth and written-off.
